If your a gamer being able to play the latest games with no lag is everything. If you have lag it just isn’t any fun. If your reading this article your experiencing lag and want to know how to fix your problem. Well I have some possible solutions that can possibly help you get back to gaming.

The most common thing that everyone will tell you is that you need a new graphics card. Well that works almost every time but it can be costly. Right now the best cards are the ATi Radeon 5XXX cards and they start at around $145 brand new. If you have the money then by all means go ahead and get the latest cards. However if you don’t want to spend the money then keep reading.

A quick fix for lag with older cards is to reduce your resolution. There is no point in trying to play a game like Borderlands with a Nvidia 8 series card at the highest resolution because your not going to get playable frame rates. You will probably have to reduce resolution to something like 1024x 768 or 800×600.

Something else you can try is to adjust the Anti-Aliasing a good setting is 2x-4x anything higher can really put strain on older GPU’s. In case you didn’t already know Anti-Aliasing smooths out the jagged edges of the CGI based graphics.

Next thing to check is Video Sync. Video Sync trys to adjust the speed of the card so that what you see on screen is what the card is processing at the exact same time with little to no delay. Some cards can’t keep up and will be out of sync. Try turning it off.

If none of the things I just told you don’t do the trick it might be time for a new card. If you don’t have the money for on of the newer cards see if your current GPU can do SLI or Crossfire mode. If it can then just get another one of your cards and insert it into the extra PCI Express slot on your motherboard (if you have one).

I also recommend having at least a Dual Core CPU and at least 2GB of RAM.
