Job Title: DataOps Engineer

About the Role:
This role supports Vermont’s health data modernization initiative, focusing on building a scalable DataOps foundation across ingestion, data quality, governance, and analytics. You’ll work hands-on while also enabling internal teams to adopt modern data practices.
Scope of the Project:
The focus is on modernizing data pipelines, governance, and analytics capabilities, including ingestion into AWS data lake environments, improving data quality, and establishing operational DataOps practices.
Daily Duties / Responsibilities:
Develop and operationalize DataOps workflows and practices
Build and improve data ingestion pipelines and processing frameworks
Implement data quality, anomaly detection, and monitoring (SPC/AI-based)
Define and manage metadata, lineage, and governance standards
Develop BI models and dashboards (Power BI)
Support Agile workflows using Azure DevOps (Boards, Pipelines, Repos)
Collaborate with teams to translate requirements into pipeline specifications
Create SOPs, playbooks, and documentation for long-term sustainability
Monitor performance metrics and maintain observability dashboards
Required Skills (Ranked):
Strong experience in DataOps / Data Engineering / Data Science environments
Experience with Azure DevOps and Databricks
Experience building data pipelines and ingestion frameworks
Strong knowledge of data quality, governance, and metadata management
Experience with BI tools (Power BI)
Experience working in cloud environments (AWS preferred for data lake)

Azure Data Engineer Associate
Power BI (PL-300)
Databricks Data Engineer
Azure AI Engineer
DAMA CDMP / DCAM
Agile / Scrum (CSM, SAFe, PSM)
Lean Six Sigma / Change Management (Prosci)
Security+ or similar (data governance/security focus)
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Environment and Tools:
Azure DevOps (Boards, Pipelines, Repos, Wikis)
Azure Databricks
AWS Data Lake (medallion architecture)
Power BI, Power Automate
SharePoint, Microsoft Teams
Additional Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
Ability to work across technical and business teams
Experience enabling teams and driving adoption of new processes
Strong documentation and communication skills
This is not just a data engineer role you’re expected to build DataOps practices, improve governance, and enable teams, not just write pipelines. If someone lacks both technical depth and operational mindset, they’ll struggle.
