Position: Teradata Administrator
Location: San Jose CA (Onsite)
Duration: 8+ months
Description:
Must-Have
1. Database Installation and Configuration: Installing, configuring, and upgrading Teradata database systems, including software and utilities.
2. User and Security Management: Creating and managing user accounts, roles, profiles, and basic access privileges to control database access.
3. Backup and Recovery Operations: Performing routine data backups, managing recovery processes, and ensuring data integrity and availability.
5. Basic Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving common database-related problems, such as connectivity issues, space constraints, or failed jobs.
Advanced Responsibilities:
6. Performance Tuning and Optimization: Deep diving into SQL query optimization, analysing explain plans, and implementing advanced techniques (e.g., join indexes, partitioning) to enhance system performance.
7. Workload Management (TWM/TDWM): Designing, configuring, and managing Teradata Workload Manager rules to prioritize queries, manage concurrency, and ensure service level agreements (SLAs).
8. Capacity Planning and Growth Management: Analysing historical usage patterns, forecasting future growth, and planning for hardware and software upgrades to meet evolving business needs.
9. Disaster Recovery Planning and Testing: Developing, documenting, and regularly testing comprehensive disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity in the event of a major outage.
10. Advanced Security and Compliance: Implementing advanced security features (e.g., encryption, auditing, row-level security), ensuring compliance with data governance policies, and conducting security audits.
Good-to-Have
1. Proficiency in Scripting Languages (e.g., Python, Shell Scripting): While automation was mentioned, advanced scripting skills allow for more sophisticated custom monitoring, reporting, and proactive problem-solving beyond standard tools.
2. Cloud Platform Familiarity (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud): With Teradata Vantage often deployed on cloud platforms, understanding cloud infrastructure, networking, and security concepts within these environments is increasingly valuable.
3. Strong Data Warehousing and ETL Concepts: A deeper understanding of the entire data lifecycle, including data ingestion (ETL/ELT processes), data modeling methodologies (e.g., Dimensional Modeling), and data governance, helps in optimizing the database for its intended use.
5. Version Control System Experience (e.g., Git): Managing database scripts, configuration files, and automation code using version control systems ensures proper tracking, collaboration, and rollback capabilities for changes.
Education: At least a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Software/Electronics Engineering, Information Systems, or closely related field is required.
