I have been looking around lately at all the old hardware I have lying around and thought what could I do with it all? Media center? Web server? Hardware Firewall perhaps? Then I came across Untangle Linux Firewall and thought why not give this a try! Next thought was why install on the old hardware and increase my energy costs when I can install it on Virtualbox on my main Linux server instead? So I have installed Untangle Linux Firewall on Virtualbox running on a Linux Mint 10 File and Print Server and below will outline how I did it.
My network looks like this:
Internet – Wireless Router – Untangle Linux Firewall – Linux Mint 10 file and print server – Various Virtual machines.
I have left the wireless router outside the main network as I am only concerned with protecting my main server and virtual machines. I will still have firewalls on any wireless clients.
First thing is to get a copy of Untangle Linux Firewall. Once you have it fire up Virtualbox and add a new virtual machine. Remember you need the following requirements during set up:
1. Create a fixed sized disk of at least 20Gb. If you allocate a dynamic disk the installation will fail.
2. Allocate at least 512Mb of RAM. I allocated 1024Mb and it runs fine.
3. Make sure you allocate 2 NIC’s for your virtual machine and set both to bridged adapter so Untangle can talk to the rest of your network.

Technically, you can’t call it an emulator. Because, Anbox uses containerization technology to run Android apps on Linux just as LXC and Docker runs different Linux containers.

With the release of Android L, most of the Google Apps are getting invaded by the Material Design language. Material Design Concept is all about paper effect. The User Interfaces and screens are like sheets of paper stacked or lying side by side. This update brings the pretty comprehensive redesign within the Android’s latest material design guidelines. The update starts with the new ‘flatter’ play store icon and continues throughout the app with the resolute colors, some strong animations, large images and better applications of shadows and coloring.
The app is being rolled out in phases, so you may not be the first one to catch the update yet. You can either open your play store from time to time to be lucky enough catch the update or you can download and install on your own from related websites.
After getting the update you will immediately notice the new animations for the slide-in panel and the newly associated hamburger button which changes to the way, the ‘What’s new’ section of the app listing is highlighted and properly displayed. App listings don’t change themselves dramatically, a lot of that has come in the last update, but everything else like the search results and installed apps list come up a lot faster.
Apart from these artistic changes, updated play store feels a bit hasty and still we need to notice any other chops, slowdowns or loading screens. There is still a doubt whether this is the just animation trick or the real improvement, but it feels certainly better. ‘What’s new’ section is now highlighted in green and once you click on it, you are directly taken into the content with no necessity to scroll down. It is a one-two punch function and design which has excited us for the future Material design updates of other Google apps.
