Role: PostgreSQL DBA (GCP)
Location: Dearborn, MI Onsite
Database Administrator (GCP):
Design, build, and maintain PostgreSQL databases in GCP (Cloud SQL, Compute Engine, or GKE-based deployments).
Perform advanced performance tuning, query optimization, index management, and capacity planning.
Implement and maintain high availability (HA), replication (logical/physical), and failover strategies.
Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions, including PITR in GCP.
Enforce database security best practices, access management, encryption, and network policies.
Automate operational tasks using Terraform, Python, Bash, or Cloud Functions.
Monitor and troubleshoot database performance using Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, or thirdparty tools.
Collaborate with application, DevOps, and platform teams to support database integration and CI/CD pipelines.
Perform rootcause analysis on database incidents and implement longterm fixes.
Ensure compliance with data governance, regulatory policies, and audit requirements.
Collaboration & SME Leadership:
Act as the primary SME for PostgreSQL in GCP.
Provide guidance, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to operations teams.
Work closely with vendors, engineering teams, and stakeholders to support strategic initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience:
8+ years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, including deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals.
Strong experience working in GCP environments, especially Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL.
Expertise in performance tuning, explain plans, vacuuming strategies, and connection pooling (pgBouncer/pgPool).
Strong understanding of GCP networking, IAM roles, VPC, and private services.
Handson experience with backup/restore tools, WAL archiving, logical replication, and high-availability setups.
Proficiency in Terraform (or other IaC tools), and scripting (Python/Bash).
Experience with monitoring and alerting for PostgreSQL and cloud environments.
Excellent analytical and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with BigQuery, GKE, or hybrid/multicloud PostgreSQL deployments.
Knowledge of Kubernetes operators for PostgreSQL such as CloudNativePG, Patroni, or CrunchyData.
Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps practices, or SRE methodologies.
Google Cloud certifications (e.g., Professional Database Engineer, Cloud Architect).
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work independently and lead technical initiatives.
