High latency or ping in Fortnite can be frustrating. Ping is the amount of time it takes for data to travel between you and our data centers. Your ping is dependent on several factors including your location and your connection speed, but it also depends on the route it takes to connect to our data centers. If you have a ping issue, try reaching out to your internet service provider to diagnose the problem. When you contact them, it’s helpful to include a traceroute since this can help them identify where the problem is. Note that the following steps are for Windows 10 and may vary on other versions. Check with your operating system manufacturer for instructions on how to run a traceroute on your OS.

To run a traceroute click on Start, type run, and then press Enter.

Type cmd and then press Enter.

Open your internet browser and go to help.epicgames.com.

In the search field, type traceroute and then press Enter.

Click on How do I run a traceroute for the network connection I’m using for Fortnite?

Depending on your physical location, you need to copy the appropriate command listed from our help article. In this example, we’ll use NA-East. Highlight the command, right-click on it, and then click on Copy.

Go back to the Command Prompt window and right-click, which will paste the traceroute command, and then press Enter.

The traceroute will take a couple minutes to run. Once it is complete the command prompt will show a new command line. Minimize the command prompt.

You can locate your traceroute text file on your desktop. When you contact your internet service provider, ask them to review the traceroute to see if they can identify the issue with their network.
