Position: Embedded Software Test Engineer – Vehicle Systems
Location: Dearborn, MI (Hybrid)
Contract: 6+ Months

Rate: $40/hr on C2C only
Overview
We are seeking an Embedded Software Test Engineer to validate vehicle software and integrated systems throughout the product development lifecycle. This role supports the planning, preparation, execution, analysis, and documentation of testing activities for embedded vehicle features and software releases within an Agile development environment.
The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, investigate, and validate software and system issues while supporting both manual and automated testing efforts. This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to evolving technologies and development priorities.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (4 days per week onsite)
Key Responsibilities
Validate vehicle software and integrated systems against functional, quality, performance, and customer requirements.
Plan, prepare, execute, analyze, and document software testing activities.
Develop and execute functional test scenarios using Agile user stories and sprint requirements.
Collaborate with development teams to understand testing requirements.
Review project requirements to ensure they are testable.
Prepare test benches, vehicles, tools, and software required for testing.
Record test results, document defects, and perform root cause analysis.
Reproduce and troubleshoot software and system defects with engineering teams.
Participate in hardware and software root cause investigations.
Support system design, documentation, and testing activities.
Provide testing estimates during sprint planning.
Maintain laboratory hardware and testing environments.
Analyze software failures and support validation for both manual and automated testing.
Contribute to test automation enhancements and validation of new vehicle features.
Identify opportunities to improve testing processes and execution efficiency.
Utilize test management tools for planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting.
Produce detailed defect reports and testing documentation.
Develop Python scripts to collect, clean, analyze, and report vehicle or fleet data.
Build simple software tools and dashboards to improve operational efficiency.
Integrate data from approved internal portals, databases, and APIs.
Test dashboards and software tools to validate data accuracy and functionality.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
3–5 years of relevant experience.
Experience with software testing and test execution.
Proficiency in Python.
Experience working with APIs.
Experience performing root cause analysis.
Experience working within Agile development environments.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to document testing activities and defect reports.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with test automation.
Experience developing automated scripts.
Experience using Python libraries such as pandas for data analysis.
Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar dashboard tools.
Knowledge of SQL and database querying.
Experience with API interaction and data parsing.
Experience with log analysis and telemetry interpretation.
Familiarity with test automation frameworks.
Experience with toolchain development for vehicle operations.
Technical writing and process documentation experience.
Familiarity with vehicle testing, fleet operations, vehicle lifecycle management, or UX evaluation.
