Job Title: Senior DevOps Engineer
Location: Chicago, IL

Primary Focus: Azure Cloud DevOps (No AWS)
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure to design, build, and operate scalable, secure, and highly available cloud infrastructure. This role requires strong hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD automation, Kubernetes (AKS), Terraform, and monitoring tools, supporting enterprise-grade, production environments.
Candidates must be local to Chicago and ready for an in-person interview.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Cloud Architecture & Infrastructure
Design, deploy, and manage scalable cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure
Hands-on experience with Azure services including:
AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service)
Azure Front Door
Azure Key Vault
Azure API Management (APIM)
Application Gateway & Load Balancers
CI/CD Automation
Develop and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
Build and manage pipelines with Gradle and Maven
Support continuous integration, automated testing, and deployment best practices
Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
Provision and manage infrastructure using Terraform (Terraform Cloud preferred)
Implement reusable, version-controlled IaC modules
Containerization & Orchestration
Build and manage containerized applications using Docker
Orchestrate containers using centralized Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
Monitoring, Observability & Reliability
Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting using Dynatrace and Azure Monitor
Apply SRE principles to ensure high availability, performance, and system reliability
Troubleshoot production issues and optimize system performance
Security & Compliance
Implement cloud and pipeline security best practices
Manage secrets, encryption, and access controls
Mitigate vulnerabilities identified by SonarQube, Checkmarx, and CAST scans
Collaboration & Leadership
Work cross-functionally with DevOps, Engineering, and Platform teams
Lead technical initiatives and mentor junior engineers
Organize, moderate, and promote DevOps best practices across teams
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
Experience
5+ years of DevOps / Software Engineering experience
Proven experience supporting complex, distributed systems
Cloud & DevOps Tools
Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure (mandatory)
Strong experience with:
Azure DevOps (Pipelines, Dashboards)
GitHub
Terraform / Terraform Cloud
Docker & Kubernetes (AKS)
Programming & Scripting
Proficiency in one or more:
Python
Go
Java
Bash
Networking
Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, Load Balancers, and networking fundamentals
Databases & Messaging
Relational Databases: Azure SQL, Snowflake, Oracle
Non-Relational Databases: Redis
Messaging Platforms: Confluent Kafka
Development Practices
Experience with CI/CD, test-driven development, and test automation
